Biographical Information[edit]

Carlos Lowell was born in California then moved with his family to Cuba, where his father was from. They moved from there to Puerto Rico and Lowell pitched a no-hitter in college. He then returned to Puerto Rico for dental school. [1]

He pitched for the Puerto Rican national team that won Bronze in the 1970 Amateur World Series and was with them for the 1971 Pan American Games. [2] He led the 1971 Amateur World Series with three wins and his 0.33 ERA was 6th. [3] In a 1972 series with the Cuban national team, he became the only Cuban to beat the Cuban national team. [4] He was 0-1 with a 4.69 ERA in the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games, losing to the Dominican national team; only Rubén Valdez had a higher ERA for Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico won Bronze. [5] He was with them for the 1975 Pan American Games. [6]

He later was a dentist. His son Mike Lowell was a four-time All-Star in MLB. [7]
