Biographical Information[edit]
Carlos Méndez was signed by the Kansas City Royals as an undrafted free agent in 1991. Through the course of his 16 year minor league career, he played for the Royals, Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, and Atlanta Braves organizations. Mendez often ranked in the top ten in several offensive categories and was also named to several all-star teams during this time. The Orioles promoted Mendez to the major leagues in 2003 and he spent nearly four months with the club over two stints while playing in 26 games.
After his playing career ended in 2007, Mendez moved immediately into coaching with the Braves.

Mendez was slated to return to Danville in 2014, but was promoted to Lynchburg in mid-April after Hillcats hitting coach John Moses was promoted to the Mississippi Braves. Six years later, he was scheduled to coach the Gwinnett Stripers in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
