Biographical Information[edit]

Carlisle Littlejohn pitched 14 games for the 1927 Cardinals and then came back to pitch 12 games for the 1928 Cardinals. His ERA both years was a bit higher than the team ERA, but was better than the league's ERA in 1928. He was a teammate both years of Pete Alexander, who was 15 years older. As a hitter, Carlisle went 5-for-12 in 1927, for a .417 batting average.

Littlejohn was born in Irene, TX, near Dallas, and went to college at Austin College. His time there overlapped with that of Ray Morehart. Carlisle played three seasons in the minors, mostly in Texas, before coming to the majors, and in 1928 spent part of the season with the Houston Buffaloes. He was in the minors as well in 1929-31. In all, he had a 67-51 record in the minors. He played some outfield when he first broke in as a 22-year-old, although he also pitched.

He was a teammate of first cousin Carl Littlejohn on the Houston Buffaloes in 1928 [1].

The Tris Speaker Hall of Fame, located in Hubbard, TX, contains some memorabilia from Carlisle Littlejohn. [2] Hubbard is 12 miles from Irene, TX where Carlisle was born.

Through 2020, the only other major leaguer named Littlejohn has been Dennis Littlejohn.
