Biographical Information

Infielder Carl Fairly spent 11 seasons in the minor leagues. His son, Ron Fairly, was an All-Star outfielder/first baseman and broadcaster.

Fairly hit .244 and slugged .370, with 12 triples in his pro debut in 1934. In 1935, he batted .325 with 38 doubles and 17 triples for the Pine Bluff Judges. He tied for 4th in the East Dixie League in both doubles and triples. The next year, Carl batted .289 between the Helena Seaporters and the Fort Worth Cats. In 1937, the infielder from California hit .262 with 9 triples for Fort Worth and the Macon Peaches.

Fairly played for Macon in 1938 (.302, 34 2B) and 1939 (.273, 10 3B). He got a shot with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1940 but only hit .188/~.250/.233 in 49 games. Back with Macon for 1941, the veteran batted .252, then .262 in 1942. With rosters shrinking in wartime, Carl got a second look at AA, this time with the Indianapolis Indians and hitting .224/.284/.277 in regular action. He had 49 errors at shortstop. He returned to baseball briefly with the 1947 Las Vegas Wranglers and hit .381 with a .642 slugging in the high-octane Sunset League.
