Capitoline Grounds

The Brooklyn Atlantics facing the Cincinnati Red Stockings at the Capitoline Grounds in 1870

The Capitoline Grounds served as the home ballpark for the Brooklyn Atlantics throughout the 1860s. The field was also home to the Brooklyn Enterprise in 1866. It was the Atlantics' home field when they played in the National Association in 1872.

The field continued to be used by local amateur teams after the Atlantics folded, and also hosted some American football games. The field continued to be used until 1880 until Halsey, Marcy, Putnam and Nostrand Avenues were built over it. Although the field is now no longer existent, there is a coffee shop called "Capitoline Grounds" in New York named after the field and as a witty play on "coffee grounds."
