After graduating he spent the summer as a camp instructor for the IMG Baseball Academy. In the fall of 2012 he joined Defiance College as an assistant coach and stayed with the Yellow Jackets through 2015. Castro also coached during the summers of 2014 and 2015 with the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League.
For a change of pace, Castro spent several months in 2016 as a throwing trainer at Driveline Baseball. He returned to Lake Erie College as a head coach in the fall of 2016. Castro coached the Storm until the end of 2018.
The Milwaukee Brewers hired Castro in 2019 and he moved up quickly through their player development system. He was pitching coach of the Carolina Mudcats in 2019. Castro was the Minor League Pitching Coordinator in 2020 and most of 2021. The latter year ended with a promotion to Director of Pitching Development. He didn't stay long in this position as he was promoted again in July 2022 to Vice-President for Player Development. He remained in the latter position through 2023.
