Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Caleb Pendleton made national news in the first game of his college baseball career.
On February 20, 2021, he was playing in Florida Atlantic University's first game since the 2020 college season had ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and he hit a grand slam in each of his first two at-bats against the University of Central Florida - both coming in the same inning, reminding everyone of Fernando Tatis' exploit against Chan Ho Park back in 1999. "It's all downhill from here", quipped a broadcaster after his second at-bat, and while he did fly out the next time he came up in the game, he went on to have a fine college career. He played three seasons at Florida Atlantic, hitting a total of 17 homers, and while he never hit for a great average - his best was .268 in his sophomore season in 2022, he was considered a fine defensive catcher. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Los Angeles Angels on July 11, 2023, after being left unclaimed in the 2023 amateur draft. In addition to his years in college, he had played four seasons of summer collegiate baseball, three of them in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
He began his pro career with the ACL Angels soon after signing but was promoted to the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Northwest League after just one game. His slash line for his first year was .216/.245/.235 in 16 games. In 2024, he appeared at three different levels, with stops in the Arizona Complex League and with Tri-City before being assigned to the Inland Empire 66ers of the California League at the end of June. Overall, he hit .221/.275/.347 in 41 games. His first two home runs as a professional were both hit with Inland Empire.
