Biographical Information[edit]
César Quintero played four years in the minors for the Seattle Mariners chain. In 2001, he hit .253 for Aguirre in the Venezuelan Summer League. The next year, he batted .319 and slugged .524. His 16 doubles were one shy of the league lead and he finished 6th in average. He was the All-Star catcher and almost outslugged MVP (and future big leaguer) Wladimir Balentien.
Quintero hit .323/.377/.438 for the AZL Mariners in 2003 and was 3 for 10 with 3 runs for the Inland Empire 66ers. In 2004, he was 7 for 28 for the AZL Mariners.
In the 2006 World Baseball Classic, Quintero backed up Damaso Espino and Carlos Ruiz. He got one at-bat, grounding into the game-ending double play that concluded Shairon Martis's no-hitter. He had one at-bat in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, pinch-hitting for Ruiz and fanning against Pedro Viola.
