The brother of Bruce Von Hoff, Byron Von Hoff spent four seasons in the minor leagues.

Von Hoff almost was a first-round pick, going 21st overall, the first pick of the second round in the 1966 amateur draft. He split his first season as a pro between the Marion Mets (2-1, 3.38) and the Auburn Mets (24 H, 17 R in 11 IP). In 1967, he was with the Mankato Mets (1-4, 3.19) and the Winter Haven Mets (3-1, 5.40).

In 1968, Byron only pitched eight games, all with Mankato; he was 4-1 with a 1.50 ERA. He was healthier in 1969 with the Visalia Mets, lasting all year and going 9-11 with a 4.63 ERA. He walked only 27 in 136 innings but gave up 170 hits. He batted .288 at the plate. That ended his minor league career.
