Biographical Information[edit]

Bum-hyun Cho was manager of the KIA Tigers.

Cho debuted with the OB Bears in 1982, hitting .271/~.306/.415 as a backup catcher for the first Korean Series champions. In '83, he batted .174/~.250/.217 in 41 games. During 1984, he hit .194/~.254/.309. The next year, his batting line was .238/~.283/.310 and he set career highs in games (87), at-bats (239), hits (57), doubles (8), home runs (3, tied), RBI (33), runs (30) and walks (15). Back in his usual substitute role in 1986, Cho was 11 for 65 with 3 walks, a double, triple and homer. In '87, he went only 12 for 80 with two doubles and two walks. During the 1988 campaign, Cho was 14 for 72 with two walks. In 1989, Cho was 14 for 86 with 3 doubles, a home run and 6 walks. He hit .137/~.200/.157 in 102 AB over 84 games.

Leaving OB for the Samsung Lions (in a trade for Seok-hwan Yoon) in 1991, Cho batted .262/~.297/.361 in 61 AB. He was 3 for 24 with a walk, double and home run in 1992 to end his career. Overall, he had batted .201/~.247/.277 in 615 games.

Cho later became a coach for the Lions (2002) and SK Wyverns (2003-2006). He coached for South Korea in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. He coached for the KIA Tigers in 2007 and became their manager in 2008.

In the 2009 Korean Series, his Tigers faced the SK Wyverns, managed by Sung-keun Kim, Cho's coach both in high school and with the Bears. Cho managed the Korean team in the 2010 Asian Games.
