Biographical Information[edit]
Lewis Oscar "Bull" Smith was in the majors in 1904 and 1906. He played mostly left field in 1904, but did not appear in the field in 1906. He was also credited with one game in 1911, but this was an error, as the player who appeared in that game was actually Eddie Ainsmith.
Smith was born in Plum, WV, and attended West Virginia University from 1900-1903. In 1904, he was with the Wheeling Stogies before going up to the majors for 13 games, beginning on August 30th.
In 1905 he returned to Wheeling in West Virginia, although in February of that year he was considering quitting baseball [1]. In 1906 he was back in the majors for one game with the Chicago Cubs, the great team which went 116-36.
He managed the Clarksburg Bees in 1907 and part of 1910.
After baseball he worked as a lumberman and a school teacher.
He died in 1928 in West Virginia.
