Buddy Groom was signed by scout Lou Snipp for the Chicago White Sox as a 12th round pick of the 1987 amateur draft.

Groom holds the all-time record for the most career games (786) by a player who never batted. The previous record was 637 by Bob Stanley. In second place is Joakim Soria with 773 games.
