Biographical Information

OF/1B Buck Elliott played in the minor leagues from 1937 to 1956, mostly in the low minors. The highest Elliott reached was 6 games for the New Orleans Pelicans in 1948. Over the course of his 14-year career, the outfielder/first baseman played in 1,228 games, hitting as high as .336 in a season. He twice hit at least 20 home runs (in 1947 and 1950) and 10 triples (in 1940 and 1947). His playing career was interrupted by World War II - he served 4.5 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Elliott also managed in the minors from 1949 to 1956.

Elliott later scouted for the San Diego Padres (1969), Kansas City Royals (1970), New York Mets (1971-1976), Baltimore Orioles (1977-1978), New York Yankees (1980), and Oakland A's (1982-1985). He signed, among others, former Mets pitcher Craig Swan.

Elliott's father, Albert Sr. and brother Willard Elliott also played minor league ball. Buck Sr.'s brother Gene Elliott played in the majors and another brother Heise Elliott played in the minors.
