Biographical Information[edit]

Bruce Aven's professional career stretched from 1994 to 2003 with six different organizations, including twice with the Cleveland Indians organization, for whom he debuted (1997) and finished (2002) his big league career with, with elbow ligament transplant surgery in between (1998). He was claimed on waivers following the lost 1998 tilt and served as a regular outfielder with the Florida Marlins in 1999, hitting .289 with 12 home runs in 137 games. On May 7, 1999, he swatted the Fish's first pinch-hit grand slam, taking Alan Mills of the Los Angeles Dodgers to provide the Marlins a 6-3 victory. Although he played five seasons in the majors, 1999 constituted more than half of his appearances, bouncing around the Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Cleveland and Philadelphia organizations over the next three seasons. On August 27, 2000, he hit two home runs in one game as a Dodger against the Chicago Cubs.

Supposedly, he used to wrestle alligators in his home state of Texas. Following his career, he coached baseball at American Heritage School.
