Biographical Information[edit]
Brian Ortiz won Gold with the Puerto Rican national team.
Ortiz hit .244/.360/.244 for Southern University in 2013. [1] He then transferred to Ottawa University. [2] He was the second-youngest position player on the Puerto Rican national team for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games; only Yordany Salva was younger. Ortiz was used as a pinch-runner and defensive sub, going 1 for 6 with a steal and two runs. He had 10 putouts, one assist and no errors, backing up Edgardo Báez in LF and Aldo Méndez in CF. He came up big in the win that clinched their Gold; down 1-0 against host Colombia in the 8th, he ran for Wilfredo Rodríguez-Chevere and scored the tying run when Ozzie Martínez drove him home. Puerto Rico would win 2-1 to lock up their third Gold ever in baseball at the Central American and Caribbean Games. [3]
