Biographical Information[edit]
Brian Burres was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 31st round of the 2000 amateur draft and signed by scout John Shafer. He spent 2006 to 2008 with the Baltimore Orioles, watching his ERA surge higher in the bigs each year, until he was designated for assignment in early 2009. He was claimed by the Toronto Blue Jays and made 2 fill-in starts for the injured Jesse Litsch and Ricky Romero. With an ERA of 14.21, he was sent back to Triple A before seeing time with some moribund Pittsburgh Pirates squads in 2010 and 2011. Burres continued playing after the major league portion of his career ended. He was a minor leaguer in the Giants system in 2012 before moving to Taiwan for a year with the Lamigo Monkeys in the Chinese Professional Baseball League. In 2013 he played in the Colorado Rockies minor league system. Burres spent 2014-2016 pitching for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the independent Atlantic League. He finished his playing career in the 2016/2017 winter season with the Caribes de Anzoátegui of the Venezuelan League.
After some years away from baseball, Burres re-emerged in the summer of 2021 as the manager of the Cowlitz Black Bears in the summer collegiate West Coast League. He returned to affiliate ball in 2023 as a coach for the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Burres was a pitching coach for the ACL Padres in 2024. The Padres promoted Burres to manager of the Lake Elsinore Storm for the 2025 season.
