Biographical Information[edit]

Brian Baldea was a college coach for over 20 years. He was also an associate professor in the department of physical education at Chicago.

Baldea was an assistant coach for seven years at Illinois State University. He became head coach at the University of Chicago in 1991, after the school had used five different head coaches in the prior decade, starting a long period of stability at the program. From 1996-1998, he guided the team to three straight 20-win seasons, a first in school annals.

Baldea set a Chicago record with 26 wins in 2001. In 2003, the school finished 30th in NCAA Division III, their first national ranking ever. On April 28, 2007, Baldea surpassed Amos Alonzo Stagg's school record for wins (Stagg had coached over 100 years earlier). He retired at the end of 2014 with a 411-377-5 record.
