Biographical Information[edit]

When he went to the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 2015, Brewer Hicklen was supposed to be a wide receiver on the team's football team. However, after sitting out his first season as a redshirt freshman, he found tremendous success as an outfielder on the baseball team during the 2016 spring season and never played football after that. The Kansas City Royals selected him in the 7th round of the 2017 amateur draft and he began his pro career that same year with the AZL Royals, earning a promotion to the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League midway through that season. He finished his first year at .321/.409/.532 in 39 games and was considered a top prospect by the Royals from that point forward.

He reached the major leagues with the Royals during the 2022 season, but only for 4 games, during which he went 0 for 4 with 4 strikeouts. He spent most of that year in AAA with the Omaha Storm Chasers, hitting .248 in 130 games, with 28 homers and 85 RBIs. He spent all of 2023 in the minors, starting off with Omaha before being purchased by the Philadelphia Phillies on August 22nd. He finished the year with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, and in 72 games between the two stops hit .236/.350/.455 with 10 homers and 33 RBIs.

He signed as a free agent with the Milwaukee Brewers before the 2024 season. Given his first name, many felt he was destined to join that organization at some point, and he was indeed the first player named "Brewer" to play for Milwaukee. He returned to AAA for the bulk of the season, this time with the Nashville Sounds, and had another productive year, batting .247 in 105 games, with 21 homers and 68 RBIs while also stealing 42 bases. He was added to the major league team's roster when they were allowed to add two players on September 1st.
