Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Brett Weber was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 14th round of the 1998 amateur draft, out of the University of Illinois, one year after having been drafted in the 16th round by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1997 after being named Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Year. He played in the Yankees minor league system from 1998 to 2000, having his best season in 1999 with the Greensboro Bats of the South Atlantic League. That year, he pitched 52 times in relief, going 8-4, 1.97 with 23 saves. However, he was injured the following season and washed out of organized baseball.

After sitting out a few years, he resurfaced in the independent leagues in 2003, with the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League. he was 4-3, 2.23 with 6 saves in 36 games that season, then in 2004 he went 7-1, 2.54 with 3 saves for the same team.

He worked for a time in finance for Smith Barney Citigroup before going into coaching full-time. In 2009, he re-joined the Yankees as an advance scouting director and coaching assistant where his role was to prepare the team to face upcoming opponents. he then worked in the team's video room dring games, advising the coaching staff on when to request a video review. In 2020, he was made a full-fledged member of the coaching staff with the title of assistant coach, but in 2021, he was downgraded to Coaching Assistant/Instant Replay Coordinator as MLB cracked down on the number of persons listed as coaches.
