Biographical Information

Brett Burnham played minor league baseball for the San Diego Padres system 2003-2004. He attended Auburn University and UConn and played baseball all 4 years. His brother Gary Burnham reached AAA and NPB.

Brett played 3rd base for the Auburn Tigers in 2000. He batted .268/.380/.392 while scoring 28 runs, driving in 33 and hitting 9 doubles and 2 home runs. In 2001 Brett batted .275/.417/.383 with 11 doubles and a home run while scoring 31runs and driving in 22. In 2002 Brett transferred to UConn. Brett played shortstop during the 2002 and 2003 seasons for Connecticut. In 2002, he batted an impressive .335/.485/.514 to go along with 14 doubles, 6 HR and 49RBI. Brett led NCAA Division I with 32 times hit-by-pitch, 3 more than the runner up.

In 2003 Brett put together another strong offensive season (.317/.445/.522) 8 doubles, 7 HR, 47 RBI. His efforts got him drafted in the 21st round of the 2003 amateur draft by San Diego, one pick before Irving Falu was selected. Burnham made his pro debut with the 2003 Idaho Falls Padres, posting a .290/.380/.397 line as their main second baseman. With the 2004 Eugene Emeralds, he hit .253/.346/.344 and fielded .949 as their starter at 2B. He also pitched 3 innings, allowing one run.
