Brennan Miller
- Born July 1991 in Alexandria, VA USA
Biographical Information[edit]
Brennan Miller umpired his first two major league games on April 20, 2019, having been called up from the International League to round out the crew headed by Gary Cederstrom during a doubleheader at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. He graduated from the MiLB Umpire Academy in 2013 and worked that year in the New York-Penn League. He was later promoted to the Florida State League in 2014 and the Southern League in 2015 before moving up to the I.L. in 2017. He also worked in the Florida Instructional League and the Arizona Fall League, as well as the 2016 Futures Game. He has also worked as an instructor at the MiLB Umpire Academy.
On July 18, 2019, he was the home plate umpire in the first game of a doubleheader between the Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees, when he was the victim of some abusive language by Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who was unhappy about his calling of balls and strikes, leading to Boone's ejection. This was nothing out of the ordinary, except that Boone was miked up for the occasion and his choice, profanity-laced words were caught for everyone to hear, including choice cuts such as: "My guys are (expletive) savages in that (expletive) box, and you're having a piece of (expletive) start to this game." Boone sort of apologized after the game, stating: "Sometimes in the heat of battle, you just kinda utter some things." Boone received a one-game suspension for his actions.
He became a permanent member of the major league umpiring crew in 2023.
