Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Brandon Bailey was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 6th round of the 2016 amateur draft, out of Gonzaga University. On November 20, 2017, he was traded to the Houston Astros in return for OF Ramon Laureano, who would make his major league debut the next season and prove an important contributor to a very good A's team. For his part, Bailey pitched in the Astros' system the next two years, but when he was not added to the 40-man roster after the 2019 season, he was grabbed by the Baltimore Orioles with the second pick of the 2019 Rule V Draft on December 12th. However, he could not stick with the talent-poor Orioles and was returned to Houston on March 6, 2020 just before the coronavirus pandemic shut down baseball for over three months.

After failing to make the lowly Orioles' roster, Bailey found an opportunity with the Astros, being added to the opening day roster on July 23rd thanks to opportunities created by injuries. He made his major league debut on July 26th, pitching a scoreless 9th inning in a 7-6 loss to the Seattle Mariners. He gave up a couple of hits, but was helped by his defense when José Marmolejos was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double.

Bailey moved into coaching and was a pitching coach for the FCL Orioles in 2024.

He is part Native American and a member of the Chickasaw tribe, as his great-grandfather was born on a reservation in Oklahoma and moved to Colorado after serving in the military in World War II. Brandon is proud of his heritage and sports a number of tattoos inspired by Native American culture.
