Bowie State University was known as Maryland Teachers College at Bowie until 1963 and Bowie State College until 1988.

Bowie State won the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1996 and 1997. The school also previously competed in the Maryland Intercollegiate Conference. Bob Harvey went here.
