Warren "Bobby" Wheelock played in the 1887 National League as well as the 1890-91 American Association.

Wheelock was born in Massachusetts and by the age of 20 was playing for a minor league team in Portland, ME. After two years with Portland, he came to the major leagues in 1887 with the Boston Beaneaters, which in 1887 featured King Kelly and Old Hoss Radbourn.

Bobby spent 1888 with Worcester and then 1889 and part of 1890 with the minor-league Detroit Wolverines. He came back to the majors for part of the season with the 1890 Columbus Solons, a team which posted a strong record of 79-55 in spite of having no future Hall of Famers on it. The team didn't play as well in 1891, though, although Wheelock became a regular and appeared in 136 games.

The New York Times of January 6, 1892 said that Wheelock was expected to come back to play shortstop the following season. However, that didn't happen.

He continued to play in the minors from 1892-1900, spending four years playing for Grand Rapids in the Western League.

He was the first major leaguer with the last name Wheelock.
