Biographical Information[edit]
". . . my fielding average was like my batting average." - Bobby Stevens, explaining why he didn't get another shot in the majors
Bobby Stevens hit .343 in his cup of coffee in 1931, but still didn't stick. It could be because he made 6 errors in 10 games and his range in that short time span wasn't impressive. Or it could be because he was up to fill in for Dick Bartell while he was injured, and after that Bartell was almost always healthy with the Phillies.
He lived to be nearly 100 years old.
His minor league career lasted from 1927-34.
He was on the 1932 Newark Bears for half the season until he was traded to the New York Yankees organization and put with their affiliate the Maple Leafs.
