Biographical Information[edit]

Bob Scafa pitched for Team USA and in the minors.

Scafa was 7-3 with a 2.15 ERA as a college junior, becoming the first Indiana Hooser pitcher to be All-Big Ten Conference in 45 years. [1] He was 0-1 with a 1.08 ERA for the US in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup; only Bret Wagner and Dustin Hermanson had lower ERAs for the US. He lost to Yukihiko Wada and Japan. The US won the Silver Medal. [2] Undrafted surprisingly, he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and had a 3-2, 1.72 record with one save for the 1994 Yakima Bears. He was let go despite his pro success (a bias against pitchers under six feet tall?). In '95, he was 5-8 with four saves and a 4.23 ERA for the independent Bakersfield Blaze. Only Rich Linares pitched more games for the Blaze that year.
