Iowan Bob Protexter has been involved in promoting Russian baseball in the United States. He coached for the Russian national team in the 2001 Baseball World Cup and 2007 European Championship. He also was assistant coach at his alma mater from 1997-2005; his father Don Protexter had been head coach there for over 25 years.
