Biographical Information[edit]

Bob Hantak worked as a replacement umpire in the National League during the 1979 umpires' strike. He appeared in three games in early April that year, all of them at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO.

Originally from St. Louis, he had previously played in the minor leagues in the New York Yankees organization from 1954 to 1956. He hit .287 for the Owensboro Oilers in 1954, and in 1933, he hit .233 for the Monroe Sports. In 1956, he hit .216 for the Visalia Cubs of the California League. Those stops were at the Class D or Class C levels. Each year he also spent a brief time in Class B, with the Quincy Gems in 1954 and 1955, where he hit .286 and .177 respectively, and in 1956 he had no hits in 12 at-bats for the Winston-Salem Twins in his final season.
