Biographical Information[edit]
Robert Dant spent six years in the Chicago Cubs system, playing in 1947 and from 1949 to 1953. He hit .297 with 435 hits in 484 games.
He debuted with the Sioux Falls Canaries, hitting .292/?/.453 in 73 games. He split 1949 between the Janesville Cubs (.305/?/.405 in 61 G) and Decatur Cubs (.185/?/.222 in 20 G). Perhaps his best season was 1950, when he hit .347 with 122 hits in 100 games split between the Springfield (MA) Cubs, Nashville Volunteers and another Springfield Cubs, the Springfield (MO) Cubs. He hit .361/.419/.455 in Springfield, MO, his main stop (60 G). Had he qualified, he would have been second in the Western Association in average.
He spent all of 1951 in AAA with the Los Angeles Angels (.203/.213/.257 in 26 G) and Springfield, MA (.185/.214/.222 in 15 G). With LA, he was the third-string backstop behind Les Peden and Billy Raimondi, while he backed up Nelson Burbrink and Ray Cash in Springfield. In 1952, he was 3 for 8 with a triple, walk and 3 runs for Los Angeles and hit .247/.306/.286 for the Des Moines Bruins. He was player-manager of the Janesville Cubs in 1953, guiding them to a 43-80, eighth-place finish. He batted .328/.468/.465.
