On July 8, 1953, pitcher Bob Conley signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. He had a short first season, appearing in six games and going 1-1 for the Class A Schenectady Blue Jays. He spent the next few years working his way up and, in 1958, after winning 12 games with a 2.94 ERA for the AAA Miami Marlins, he got his shot at the majors with two late season starts for the Phillies in which he gave up seven runs in eight innings. He finished his pro baseball career in 1959 and 1960 with the Buffalo Bisons, the Miami Marlins and the Chattanooga Lookouts, going 3-5 with a near 6.00 ERA. Conley spent eight seasons in baseball from 1953 through 1960 and his stats in the minors are very decent. He appeared in 164 games, going 68-53, pitching 910 innings with a 3.73 career ERA. Conley was later in the restaurant business, and passed away in Whiting, NJ in 2022 after having lived in Palisades Park, NJ.
