Biographical Information[edit]

Blight Madris was the fifth rookie outfielder to make his debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the season's first three months in 2022, following Jack Suwinski, Cal Mitchell, Travis Swaggerty and Canaan Smith-Njigba. He was 3 for 4 and made a fine catch in his first game in The Show. While he was born in Las Vegas, NV, his father is from Palau and he is the first player with roots in the small Pacific island country to appear in the majors. The next day, he took Mark Leiter Jr. deep for his first MLB homer. After his hot start in the majors, he faded and was at .177/.244/.265 (44 OPS+) with the one homer in 39 games when Pittsburgh let him go. He was claimed by the Tampa Bay Rays and was MVP of the Triple-A National Championship that October, going 4 for 5 with two doubles and four RBI to lead the Durham Bulls past the Reno Aces.
