Biographical Information[edit]

The brother of big leaguer Andy Oyler, Billy Oyler reached A ball. Billy debuted in 1904, hitting .302 for the Savannah Pathfinders, leading the South Atlantic League in batting average. The next year, he fell to .225 with the same club. He moved up to the Birmingham Barons in 1906 and batted .224. The middle infielder eked out a .148 average for the 1907 Barons. In 1908, he was 11 for 40 for the Terre Haute Hottentots. He split 1909 between the Keokuk Indians (.198 in 52 G) and Galesburg Boosters (.255 in 41 G). 1910 was also a split-season affair, with appearances for three cities in the Blue Grass League and a .247 average. With the 1912 Newport News Shipbuilders, the second baseman only hit .153. For his career, he batted .240, never living up to his rookie season's performance.
