Biographical Information[edit]

Billy Godwin has been a college coach.

A pitcher at Atlantic Christian College, he served as an assistant coach at North Carolina Wesleyan College in 1989-1990, and helped them win the 1989 Division III College World Series. He was 131-57 as head coach of Enfield Academy from 1991-1997, with a North Carolina state title in 1994. He later coached at Cary Academy from 1997-1999. From 1999-2005, he went 262-85 at Louisburg College, with a school-record 51 wins in 2002. He coached Josh Rupe there and once went to the junior college World Series.

He then moved to East Carolina University as assistant coach in 2005 but was promoted to head coach during the season. He was 33-26 in 2006 then improved to 40-23 when the school won the Conference USA title. ECU was 42-21 in 2008 and 46-20 in 2009 (winning Conference Coach of the Year) before falling to 15-27 in 2010. They rebounded to 41-21 in 2011. His contract was not renewed after the 2014 season.

Godwin was a scout for the New York Yankees covering the Carolinas from 2015-2019. He was named head coach at University of North Carolina at Greensboro for 2020. Godwin resigned in December 2023 and rejoind the Yankees as a scout.
