Bill Whitrock pitched for four teams during four years in the majors. In his rookie year at age 20 with the 1890 St. Louis Browns of the 1890 American Association, his 3.51 ERA was better than most of the regular rotation.
Although his performance was certainly good enough, he didn't come back to the majors until 1893. He was with three minor league teams in 1891 and two in 1892. In 1893 he spent part of the season with Memphis and part with the 1893 Louisville Colonels.
Bill was not very effective with the Colonels in either 1893 or 1894, and spent most of 1894 with the 1894 Cincinnati Reds. In 1895 he played for four separate minor league teams, while in 1896 he spent time with Mobile as well as with the 1896 Philadelphia Phillies, for whom he appeared in 2 games with an ERA of 3.00.
In 1897 he pitched for five different minor league teams.
