Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Bill Voeltz played in the New York Yankees organization from 1986 to 1988.

He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 28th round of the 1984 amateur draft, the same round as pitcher Dave Haas, but opted not to sign. He was then taken by the California Angels in the 2nd round of the Secondary Phase of the January portion of the 1985 amateur draft, but again, he did not sign. He finally signed after being taken by the Yankees in the 13th round of the 1986 amateur draft.

In his first year in the Yankees system, Voeltz was 4-1 with a 1.77 ERA in 35 2/3 innings for the Oneonta Yankees. He was 7-3 with a 4.62 ERA in 76 innings between Oneonta, the Prince William Yankees and the Fort Lauderdale Yankees in 1987 and in 1988, he was 2-3 with a 3.02 mark between Prince William and the Albany-Colonie Yankees.

He died on May 6, 2006 at 42 years of age.
