Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Bill Scopetone played in the minor leagues from 1940 to 1941 and from 1945 to 1953. He hit 20 home runs between two clubs his first campaign, but per records available never hit more than 9 in a season again. Seasons of note include 1940, when he hit about .362 with 48 doubles, 19 triples, the aforementioned 20 dingers and 217 hits in 136 games in the high-flying West Texas-New Mexico League and 1941, when he hit .323 with 29 doubles, 10 triples and 126 hits in 99 games between 3 clubs. In 1946, he hit .349 with 40 doubles in 127 games between three teams and in 1949, he slashed .316/.373/.431 with 36 stolen bases, 37 doubles and 105 RBI (despite hitting just 4 home runs) in 124 games for the Harlan Smokies.

He managed the Jenkins Cavaliers for part of 1950, replacing Wayne Stewart. He was a World War II veteran.
