Biographical Information[edit]
Bill Schwartz, from Kentucky, played for the Columbus Buckeyes in 1883 and the Cincinnati Outlaw Reds in 1884, at the ages of 19 and 20. He was primarily a catcher.
Most of his big league appearances were with the Reds, for whom he appeared in 29 games. The team went 69-36, and the most-utilized catcher, John Kelly was in 37 games at catcher. Two other catchers were in at least 20 games. Bill hit .236 while Kelly hit .282.
Sporting Life of May 18, 1883 reported that he was injured in an exhibition game. In the March 26, 1884 issue of the same publication, he was called "Will Schwartz".
He is not to be confused with the other Bill Schwartz, who was born in 1884.
