Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Bill Sayles made his pro debut with the Little Rock Travelers in 1938. He served in the Army during World War II and afterwards was a minor league manager and longtime St. Louis Cardinals scout.

When Sayles broke into the majors in 1939 with the Boston Red Sox, he was the second youngest player on the team. The youngest was 20-year-old rookie Ted Williams.
