Bill Robinson (umpire)
William N. Robinson
Bill Robinson was a replacement umpire in the American League for two games. The first came in 1978, when the regular umpires staged a one-day strike on April 25th and Robinson worked home plate at Fenway Park for a gaime between the California Angels and the Boston Red Sox. He worked his other game on April 5, 1979, again at Fenway Park, this time as the first base umpire. While that strike lasted six weeks, he did not appear in any other games as he was an umpire in the short-lived Inter-American League that year.
Robinson umpired in the Florida State League in 1968, the Eastern League in 1969, the International League in 1970, the Pacific Coast League in 1971 and 1972. He did not work any other professional games until his stint as a replacement umpire.
