Biographical Information[edit]
Bill Kearns spent four years in the minor leagues (1948-1951), hitting just one home run (1950) in 406 career games. Though he hit .267 in 1950, perhaps his best campaign was 1949, when he hit .258 with 169 total bases, 141 hits and five triples in 140 games for the Asheville Tourists.
He later served as a scout for the Seattle Mariners, Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals. He earned the George Genovese Award for Achievement in Scouting in 2007 and was named Scout of the Year by Major League Baseball in 2013. He signed Mickey Brantley, Bill Swift and Dave Valle.
He served in the Navy during World War II. He taught at Somerset High School and Weymouth High School while scouting.
