Biographical Information[edit]
Before becoming a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox in 1938, Bill Humphrey had tried out with both the St. Louis Browns and St. Louis Cardinals as a catcher. He won 20 and lost 7 with the Charlotte Hornets in 1935 and won 16 and lost 7 with the Little Rock Travelers in 1937. He supposedly had excellent control in the minors, walking a mere 38 men in 193 innings in 1937.
