Biographical Information

Bill Hohman was 21 years old in 1925 when he started with the Easton Farmers of the Eastern Shore League and after appearing in 40 games and hitting .282 with seven home runs he was sold to the Baltimore Orioles of the International League. He was back with Easton in April of 1926 and in 81 games Bill hit .337, with 15 home runs, 18 doubles for 163 total bases. He was sent up to Baltimore again in August.

Hohman was with Baltimore again in 1927 where he hit .292 with four home runs in 31 games before joining the Philadelphia Phillies in 1927. Bill appeared in seven major league games as an outfielder for the Phillies. He went 5-for-18 for a .278 batting average and this would be Hohman's only chance in the big leagues. In March of 1928 the Phillies traded Bill along with Harry O'Donnell and Lefty Taber to the New Haven Profs of the class A Eastern League for Walt Lerian.

Bill would play in the Eastern League for the next four seasons (1928-1931) with the New Haven club and the Hartford Senators in a split season in 1928 and then in 1929, Bill hit at a .315 clip with 24 home runs for the Hartford team alone and in '30 he had another split season, this time with the Hartford club again and the Springfield Ponies and hit .310 with 17 round-trippers. Hohman was in the Springfield line-up for the 1931 season, hitting .288 and finished up his pro baseball career in 1932 after 18 games with the York White Roses of the class B New York-Pennsylvania League when he was released after hitting at a .212 pace.

William Henry Hohman had played nine seasons (1924-1932) in the minor leagues and the slim outfielder hit for a career average of .299 with 82 home runs in 742 games. After baseball he returned to his native Maryland where he lived and worked before his death in Baltimore, MD, on October 29, 1968 at 65 years of age.
