Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Guthrie pitched for the San Angelo Colts (1948-1949) and Harlingen Capitals (1950-1954). In five of the six full seasons he pitched, he finished in the top three in the league in walks allowed.

Perhaps his best campaign was 1950, when he went 15-11 with a 4.27 ERA in 47 games (including 9 complete games and 2 shutouts); in 192 innings, he struck out 195 batters and allowed just 137 hits; he led the Rio Grande Valley League in strikeouts and his 163 walks were one behind Mike Rodriguez's 164. A couple years later, he led the Gulf Coast League with 166 Ks, and was third in walks (behind Billy Creech's 179 and Ervin Liberton's 161).

He also finished third in the Longhorn League in walks in 1948 with 129, behind Nicholas Ellis' 168 and Richard Willenburg's 145 and the next season, he paced the Longhorn League with 141 BBs. In 1951, he led the Gulf Coast League with 127 walks.

He went 69-68 in 236 games over 7 seasons.
