Biographical Information[edit]

Ervin Liberton went 20-12 in 1952, his eighth and final full minor league campaign, after never posting a winning record before then. He began his career at 18 years old in 1941, going 4-8 with 65 walks in 84 innings for the Fond du Lac Panthers his first year. He then went 4-12 with 141 walks in 156 innings for the Joplin Miners in 1942.

After spending 1943 to 1945 serving in World War II, he returned to go 5-7, 5.16 with 85 BBs (to 71 Ks) in 89 frames for the Butler Yankees in 1946. Between two clubs in 1947, he was 8-10 with 122 walks (to 91 Ks) in 149 innings; he still managed 10 complete games and 2 shutouts. In 1948, he went 6-8 with 94 walks (to 58 Ks) in 109 innings for the Ventura Yankees. After missing 1949, he returned to go 3-5 with 62 BBs (37 Ks) in 91 innings for the Sumter Chicks in 1950; in 1951, he went 6-8 with 67 walks (79 Ks) in 112 innings for the Greenville Bucks. With the Brownsville Charros in 1952, he went 20-12 with 23 complete games in 43 games. In 263 innings, he allowed 268 hits and 161 walks (1.631 WHIP, the best of his career), while striking out 133 batsmen.

Overall, Liberton went 56-70 in 1,053 innings pitched, allowing 1,043 hits and 797 walks (1.747 WHIP).
