Biographical Information[edit]
Bill DeKoning played three games for the 1945 New York Giants.
DeKoning was at Boston College in 1938-41, at the same time as Eddie Waitkus, Lennie Merullo and Eddie Pellagrini. Bill also played in the minors during 1939-42 and in 1945.
He served in the Merchant Marine.
The SABR Minor League Newsletter for March 2002 says he once played under the name Bill Callahan.
A man named Bill DeKoning (this one?) was the subject of an article in the April 30, 1977 issue of the St. Petersburg (FL) Times, regarding the possibility that the Montreal Expos might do spring training in Largo, FL. That DeKoning was said to be a resident of Clearwater, FL, and had talks with Largo officials about investors perhaps building a baseball complex there. Both Largo and Clearwater are in the Tampa, FL area, as is Palm Harbor, FL, where this DeKoning died in 1979. That DeKoning told Largo officials that Billy Jurges was his partner. Jurges had played on the 1945 Giants.
