Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Butler was a lefty pitcher drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 1965 amateur draft. He got his big league chance when he was selected by the Kansas City Royals with the 22nd pick of the 1968 expansion draft. He enjoyed some success with the first year Royals, being named to the Topps All-Star Rookie Team, when he finished with 4 shutouts and 156 strikeouts to craft a 9-10 record. But he performed inconsistently the rest of his career, bouncing between the majors and Triple A with the Royals, Cleveland Indians, and Minnesota Twins. He last pitched with the Twins in 1977, compiling a career record of 23-35 with a 4.21 ERA.
