Biographical Information[edit]

Ohio native Bill Bonness spent five active seasons in professional baseball from 1942 to 1947. He spent four days, from September 26th to September 29th, in the Major Leagues with the Cleveland Indians in 1944. Bill appeared in two games, gave up 11 hits and 6 runs in 7 innings for a 7.71 ERA and an 0-1 record. Bonness spent five seasons in the minors and never had a winning season. He did go 4-6 with a 3.04 ERA while pitching 83 innings in 18 appearances for the Des Moines Bruins of the Class A Western League in 1947, but finished his minor league career with a 17-36 record while pitching 437 innings in 99 games.

Bill served in the United States Army during World War II. Afterwards, he became a field inspector for the Cuyahoga County, Ohio, engineer's office. He died from injuries suffered at his home when he fell down his basement stairs carrying a box of tools on December 3, 1977. He was 53.
