Biographical information[edit]

Bill Abare is a former minor league baseball player. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 48th round in 1987, but he did not sign. In 1988, he was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 60th round, and this time, he chose to sign with the team.

A first baseman, Abare hit .172/~.292/.215 with one home run and five RBI in his first professional season - 1989 - with the St. Catharines Blue Jays. He struck out 76 times in 181 AB. In 1990, he played for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and had his best year, batting .251/~.350/.376 despite 121 strikeouts. His 21 errors led South Atlantic League first basemen.

In 1991, with the Dunedin Blue Jays, he hit .180/~.273/.294 with five home runs and 31 RBI in 117 games. He struck out in 127 of 350 AB, finishing second among Toronto minor leaguers in Ks.

The 1991 season was Abare's final season in professional baseball.

At last check, Abare lived in St. Augustine, FL.
