Biographical Information

Bick Campbell was an umpire in the American League from 1928 to 1931, and then in the National League from 1938 to 1940. Altogether, he worked a total of 936 games.

After serving in the United States Navy during World War I, he played football at the University of Mississippi but broke his leg in 1920, ending any hope of a career as an athlete. He began umpiring in the Appalachian League in 1921, then moved to the Southern Association midway through the 1922 season. He was back in the Appalachian League in 1923, then in the Southern Association from 1924 to 1927. After his stint in the American League, he was back in the SA again from 1932 to 1935, then worked in the International League from June of 1935 until 1938. He integrated National League ranks in September of 1938.

He was also a football coach at West Tennessee State Teachers College from 1917-1919 and at Central High School in Knoxville, TN in 1921-1923.
