Biographical Information[edit]
Bernardo Moncayo pitched for the Mexican national team in the 1967 Pan American Games. He won their opener, beating host Canada and Ron Stead, 3-1; Canada was making its international debut. Moncayo later turned pro, going 7-6 with a 3.68 ERA for the 1969 Pericos de Puebla. He fell to 2-7, 4.81 for the 1970 Leones de Yucatan and Saraperos de Saltillo. In 1971, he went 3-4 with his lone shutout as a pro and a 3.00 ERA in a career-high 38 games for the Broncos de Reynosa.
Moncayo did not play in 1972. In '73, he was 0-3 with a save and a 5.00 ERA for the Cafeteros de Cordoba and Indios de Ciudad Juárez. He switched teams once again, finishing with 5 runs (4 earned) in 8 innings for the 1975 Rieleros de Aguascalientes. Overall, he had gone 12-20 with a save and a 4.02 ERA in 138 games (38 starts). In 374 IP, he allowed 442 hits and 136 walks while fanning 153.
